The Russian Campaign.
General Rennenkampfs Strategy. Germans Defeated by Inferior Force. London, Sept. 20. The “ Daily Chronicle’s ’’ Petrograd correspondent describes how General Rennenkampf rushed a brigade forward by a night march, spoiling the German preparations to envelope his left flank. The Russians, under a tremendous artillery and rille fire, repeatedlv drove back the Germans, and eventually carried the trenches, which were tilled with corpses. They next captured the town, the stone houses of which had been converted into miniature fortresses surrounded by deep trenches and wire entanglements. Lach had to be taken separatelv. A collection of handsome coffins was found for the use of the officers. The Germans did not suspect the ridiculous numerical inferioritv of the Russians, whose success enabled General Rennenkampf to carry out Ins defensive movement recently concluded. GERMANS TO HOLD PRZEMYSL FORTS. ENEMY TO ADVANCE IN FORCE FROM POSEN. „Received 22, 8.50 a.m.) Petrograd, Sept. 21. Three German army corps have been concentrated in a fortified position in the vicinity of Przemysl, with orders to defend it to the uttermost, so as to enable the German forces gathering at Posen to arrange a general forward movement. .AUSTRIANS AGAIN REPULSED. RUSSIAN ATTACK ON’ PRZEMYSL OPENED. OFFICIAL.—The Austria!;-, endeavoured to arrest the advance of General Baranoff RanGhoff. Their front was repulsed with great loss. Our siege guns bombarded Grostav. A fight with artillery has commenced at Przemysl. WHITE FLAC AGAIN ABUSED. COSSACKS TAKE WILD REVENGE. During the battle <>i‘ Lemberg, the Austrians, after hoisting the white flag, treacherously shot down General Frolve, the hero of Port Arthur. This infuriated the Russians, and they sabred them unsparingly.
