Germany, of all others, had a proud record of leading research in science, art, and every development of intellect, but, unfortunately, the German was ruled by a military class that had their iron heel on the liberty of the people, a class that disregarded the common claims of humanity, that stood between them and their ideal of grabbing territory and conquering small nations. —Hon.
