HAVELOCK NORTH.

TOWN BOARD MEETING. Messis T. M. Chambers (chairman) A. J. Pothan. L. T. Cooper, H. A. Mosiman, J. G. Ninoiu and J. H. Joll, attended the monthly meeting of the above board last evening. The chairman, with Mr. Scrinigeour, were authorised to get the money for the loan, from London, where it is now lying at the board’s disposal. A letter was read from S. J. Carding, resident engineer at Napier of the Public Works Department, acknowledging receipt of letter with reference to the need of a culvert in front of the double gate of the new post office, and stating that he would arrange to have one put in as soon as the work was authorised. With regard to a horse sail he would suggest that they refer the matter to the chief postmaster, Napier, as it would have to be approved by his department. The Chief Postmaster at Napier wrote stating that a horse rail would be fixed at the north-east corner of the post office, so that horses standing there would not interfere with traffic at the post office. Regarding the culvert the engineer had informed him that he was arranging for a culvert to be put in at the double gate to enable vehicles to cross from the road to the post office premises. A letter was received from the Hastings Borough Council with regard to the question of lighting of the Havelock .road between the Town Board district and the Hastings borough. The matter had received the further consideration of the council, and an estimate of the cost of providing the necessary lamps along that portion of the road within the county had been furnished by the electrical engineer and a copy ci the report to the board was to give an idea of the cost of providing ihc lamps. It was proposed to charge at the rate of 5d per unit for the current consumed in lighting the street in question.—The report of Mr. Rogers, the Hastings electrical engineer, stated that he had gone into the cost of erecting lamps along the countyportion of the Havelock road, and he recommended a lamp of 50 candlepower on every third pole cr about seven chains apart from the borough boundry to the pole at the entrance to the Havelock bridge. This would take 13 lamps. To supply the lamp a time switch would be needed at the borough boundry to automatically put the lamps on and off. The cost complete to erect the lamps, with cables, fuses, etc., weald be £65. —Received.
