CENTRAL RUGBY UNION. “CONTINGENT DAY.” The weekly meeting of the Central District Rugby Union was held last evening, when a letter was read from the Town Clerk with reference to efforts to assist the war fund, and stating that in the event of the union devoting the proceeds of next Saturday’s matches to the patriotic fun the Napier Council w’ould forego all ground charges. It unanimously decided to make the day a special one, and to play juniors and senior representative games, Hastings v. Napier, at the Recreation Ground, the w-hole of the proceeds to be handed to the war fund. All other matches to be suspended. The following teams have been selected to represent Napier, the first game to be played at 1.30 p.m. : Seniors: Full-back. N. McKenzie; three-quarters, Leader, Macnamara, Robinson; five-eighths, W. Holder; Bailey; half-back. Waugh; wingforward. Hodgson; forwards, Barry, Berry, Baxter. Mullany, Summer sell, Mullany. Morrison. Reserves: Stevenson (back), Steevens (forward). Junior s: Full-back, Reid; threequarters, Jones, Starkey. Hannah; five-eighths, Lawry, Goldfinch; halfback, Findlay ; wing forward, Amner; forw’ards, Tweedie, Norman, Clark, North. Jackson, Holland, Hodge. Reserves: Findlay (back), Mullany (forward). In connection with the Rugby matches between Napier and Hastings to be played on the Recreation Ground, Napier, on Saturday next the proceeds of which are in aid of the Expeditionary Force fund, Mr. R. Ferguson has selected the following teams to represent Hastings: — Senior. —Full-back, H. Graham ; three-quarters, Stewart. W. Blake and Cook; five-eighths, P. Blake and Porohiwi; half, Ellingham; win forward, McKay ; forwards, Prter, Woods. Morgan. Bollinger, Gemmell, Murphy and Steele, emergencies. Richbelin and Corkery. Juniors. — Full-back, Nesbitt; three-quarter, Carr, Gigg, and Poppelwell; five-eighths, Anderson and Kelly; half, Fitzgerald; wing forward, Gibble ; forwards, H. Clark. Percy. Herlihv. Wini&ta, Smiler, S. Nesbitt and Watkins ; emergencies, Love and Beck.
The junior team will leave by the 12.30 train. Any of the above players unable to take part must notify the selector without delay.
WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Aug. 12. The Wellington Rugby U’nion decided to-night to bracket the Wellington and Athletic club teams as the winners of the senior championship. This is a result of the war and the dispatch of a New Zealand contingent. Both clubs lost heavily by reason of enlistments. The Welling ton seniors are sending fourteen men in the advance guard. Selwyn wert awarded the third-class champion ship. The Wellington Football Associa tion also feels the strain of the war. It has postponed the first, second and' third-class matches, and instructed the fixtures committee tc consider the advisableness of closing up the season.
