THE THAMES CONTINGENT. Thames, Aug. 13. There was a scene of enthusiasm at the Thames station to day, when the second quota of the Expeditionary Force left. The Mayor delivered a stirring speech. Another section is now being enrolled. Messrs. A. and G. Price have sub scribed £5OO to the national fund, and Mr. J. Watson, a member of the firm, donated £250. EXPEDITIONARIES INSPECTED Wellington, Aug. 13. General Godley inspected the ad vance detachment this morning. OTAGO MILITARY CAMPS. Dunedin, Aug. 13. A military camp was commenced at Tahuna Park to day with volunteers from Dunedin. Other camps in the Otago district are’’being held at Oamaru, Milton, and Invercar gill, where training .will be. carried on. There will bo final concentrations at Tahuna Park. ARTILLERY HORSES WANTED. Mr. J. A. Fraser. Provincial Secretary of the Farmers’ Union, Hastings, has received a telegram from the Dominion Secretary of rhe Union emphasising the necessity of securing animals of ,-nimble age and type for artillery horses. The Government still requires large numbers and difficulty is" being experienced in fulfilling the requirements. Owners who have horses to dispose of are requested to communicate with Mi. J H. It is under stood that the first section of thy Gisborne contingent to the Expeditionary Force (50 men and horses' will leave for the south on Friday, and an infantry section is expected to leav'e on Sunday. The first batch from Gore district for the Expeditionary Force, in number, left yesterday. "There was an enthusiastic farewell. One hundred and t.wenty national reset ve subseequently paraded. Forty-six members of the 13th Regiment, fully equipped, proceed from Hokitika to Greymouth on Frt day, and will go overland to Christ church. They comprise thirty six volunteers from Hokitika, including three officers, and ten from Greymouth.
