MINISTERS IN THE SOUTH. [I’KH fUEIW ASSOCIATION. ] Dunedin. May 29. In the Garrison Hall this evening - Mr. Massey addressed a crowded meeting oti. a large number of political questions, his speech being'mainly on the lines of those delivered by him in the south earlier in the wcetaM He outlined the programme of tW coming session .Ms-in his Invercargill speech, promising among other things ameinlments in the indsutriaf law, the licensing law .the electoral law. ami in legislation affecting education. He also promised further ‘ legislation to encourage the fruit in- '• dustry. An Asiatic Immigration Rill would also be brought down, which would stop the immigration of Asiatics to this country. A motion of thanks and confidenc* and pledging the meeting to support the Massey Government wan proposed and seconded. An amendment of thanks to Mr. Massey for his address but expressing disapproval of the tactics adopted Ly the Government to capture the Treasury benches, as such were calcuia:.ed to demoralise party politics, waa proposed, hut the motion was carrie 1 by a very large majority. Christcnurch. May 29. The Hon. A. L. Herdman delivered a speech at Hawarden, to-day on the lines of that delivered by him at Methven. He made extended reference to the Public Trust Office, and replied to certain criticisms madq by Mr. G. AV. Russell, M.P., concerning the administration of the offied.
MR. ISITT ON THE WEST C'OAfiT Hokitika, May 29. Mr. L. M. Isitt, M.P.. addressed a public meeting here to night. The weather was unfavourable, and the Princess Theatre held a small attendance. Mr. Isitt, who was subjected to frequent interruptions, spoke on the same lines as his previous addresses in other parts of the Dominion. At the conclusion of the address a vote of thanks to the speaker ami continued confidence in Sir Joseph Ward as leader of the Liberal party xvns carried. An amendment was not seconded. Cheers were given for Mr. Isitt, Sir Joseph Ward, and Mr. Massey. MR. G. HUNTER, M.P., AT NORSE WOOD. (OWN CORRESPONDIN'!.] Mr. G. Hunter, M.P.. visited Xorsewood on Thursday, and in the evening mot his supporters there. M&iiS. Brabazon occupied the chair. Hunter addressed the meeting at considerable length. He pointed out how they could help to cheek misleading statements being circulst cd. The meeting formed itself into a committee to canvass and work the district on Mr. Hunter’s behalf. The * opinion is that Mr. Hunter’s chance* of securing a big majority at Norsewood are very bright. Mr. Hunter was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
Mr. G. Hunter. M.P.. visited Makotuku on Thursday inorning and travelled through the Blairgowrie block. He interviewed the Hettlem regarding the construction of' roads, etc., and promised to again meet them at Makotuku at a later date to discuss matters in connection with the block. Mr. Hunter was accord ed a hearty vote of thanks for hi* ini<*rest shown in the new settle ment.
