Mr. K. Beecham has been appointed representative of the Builders’ Union on the Napier Technical College Board oi Governors. Sir William MacGregor. Governor of Queensland, has announced that he'will remain in office till the end of file term, excepting for a month's leave to which he is entitled.--Press Association.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Hon. James Allen, returned to Dunedin from the south this morning. Mr. Massey speaks ai Dunedin tonight. Naval defence the electoral laws. Upper House reform. and local government, it is understood, will be dealt with. - Press Association.

Mr. H. A. Corhes, l ite of Kiritaki. has assumed the duties of third master at the Hastings District School. Mr. C. W. Pearce, of the Hastings School staff left by the mail train this morning to take up an appointment at Ngamoka. Yesterday afternoon Air. Pearce addressed his class bidding them farewell, and the scholars gave him three heartycheers.

A peculiar pathos attached to the deiuh of Lieutenant Gilbert Molesworth Wolman. who perished in the submarine A 7. Only a fortnight before his death, owing to his connection with the Molesworth family, he came into a huge fortune, the income of which is said to produce over £20,000 per annum. The deceased. however, left no issue, and c.vnseoucntly the property will pass to his younger brotner.

The death is announced of Airs. Frances King, nee Shrimpton, of Timaru. daughter of the first pi inter of the ’ Lyttelton Times.” She married Air. James A. King, brother inlaw of Ibe late Air. Barnard Rhodes. Air. King took part of the original Levels run from Messrs. Rhodes Bros., and founded the Otipua home stead. Airs. King coming down in 1838. She leave;, tw esens and a daughter.

Regret was expressed at the Provincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union at Wanganui at the announce ment by Air. J. G. AVilson president that he’ would not be a candidate for the chair on the present occasion. Air. Wilson explained that he. had undertaken other duties and had been advised by his medical man that if he was going to take up those duties, he must give up others. He would, however, be pleased to continue on the executive.

The death has cecurre.l it Timaru of Mr. IV. B. Howell, aged 72, who came out in 1864. The Auckland -‘Star” has received news by cable ot the death at Buenos Ayres of Mr. F S. Henderson, a representative of the New Zealand Insurance Company, from typhoid fever. The de ceased was formerly in the Auckland and New Pivmouth offices of the company, in both ci which he was very popular among his fellow-members of the staff, while he was ,!so -veil known in rowing and yschiing circles. His death at the eariy age of 26 years xvill be regrettca by a large number of friends, am! much sympathy will be extended to his parents, Mr. amt Mrs. G. Henderson, of Titimangi road. New Lynn.

After about -15 years' continuous service with the old Harbour Steamship Company and the I mon Steam Ship Company, Air. John Abbott left Dunedin to-day to join the Westmeath at Wellington en route for (heat Britain. About 55 years ag<» ?ilr. Abbott came to New Zealand, ami served on board various coastal steamers, including tin* Wallace ami .Mac!!, and was in the emplay <>f the Harbour Steamship Company when the latter was merged into the LHi.'>-> Sif-am Ship Company. Along with Sir James Al ills, .Mr. Abbott is the oldest surviving member of the original hr-ndquar-t< rs staff, having for many years occupied the position of head storeman for the Inion Company in Dimedip.
