DRAPERY AT PRAHRAN

A fire this afternoon totally destroyed Treadwarp’s drapery emporium, known as the Colosseum, at Prahran, and badly damaged the now town hall and three shops. The damage is roughly estimated r-t £120,000.

Melbourne, Jan. 12. Another estimate cf the fire damage is £lOO,OOO. Besides the Colosseum, which covered an area of 100ft’. by 300 ft., the Town Hall, three shops, and a dwelling were burned or destroyed by falling debris. The brigade’s splendid efforts prevented a disastrous spread. Several firemen had . narrow escapes from falling walls, and three collapsed under the fiery heat. Three hundred employees have been rendered idle.

Mr. Dunlop Tennisc-r, on the proprietors of the Colosseum, had completed his plans to depart to England on Tuesday to play in the Davis Cup matches. His departure is now probably delayed. STREET SIDE WIPED OUT. (Received 12. 5.30 a.m.) Sydney. Jan. 12. Fire has wiped out one side of the main street at Ganmain. destroying eight business premises.
