A new crossing has been made to divert the traffic to the upstream side of the new Makaretu river bridge and a similar roadway will need to be , formed shortly at the site of the new bridge over the Tukipo river. I would authority to fence off and culvert the deviation through Jamieson’s culvert the deviation through Jamiaßon’s, as the drovers complain about the lagoon of water that has to be forded on the present road. Onga Ri«Wng-—ln this and the adjoining ridings the river crossings have been badly torn about and altered. The Blackburn-Makaretu cross-road got badly rutted in plac*”*, and the usual scour took place at the bridge in Pettit’s valley. Some of the decking on this bridge has been replaced. The chairman of the Lindsay water race committee has asked me to report rather extensive damage at the intake, the filter box being torn out completely and the groyne badly damaged. In my travels during the last few days I have noticed that all the water races except Forest Gate are very nearly dry. In the latter case the road is almost obliterated just past what is known as the Devil's Elbow. Hawthorne is making good progress with his contract at Higgs’ curt big.
