Dawn apd Sandy Pau! were schooled over rive hurdle*, tile trio fencing well. A lot of others a]=o worked. Umeraboy arrived ; . sterda-.. DEATH OF SOLTANO. Mr. T. H. Lowry received a telegram from his trainer (h. Davis) at. Auckland this morning stating that Soltano. who was a strong favourite for the Railway Handicap, took ill yesterday afternoon and died this morning from interna! hemorrhage. Soltano. by Soult —ALmoquil. was one of the most brilliant colts which have raced it’ New Zealand for some years, and his death is a very heavy loss to Mr. Lowry. As a two-year-old Soltano's most notable victories were the Great Northern Foal Stakes, Great Northern Champagne Stakes and Royal Stakes, while he was also successful at Christchurch and Napier Park. His Australian career will be. fresh in the memories of racing men. his record being four starts and two Sm-i-esso*. Since returning to New Zealand he ran unplaced in the Champion Plate at Trentham. and wen the Auckland Guineas, in the latter race putting up the New Zealand mile record of linin 39 l-ssec.
