ENTRANCE TO BE DEEPENED

[PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] (Received 26, 10.20 a.m.) Melbourne, July 26. The Marine Board has announced that the entrance to Port Phillip lias been deepened to admit vessels drawing 37 feet. The present depth at the heads is .37ft., but owing tc what is known as the "scend” (the rise and fall of a vessel in a seaway) this is reduced by five or six feet ii smooth, and by ten or twelve feet ir rough weather. It: is proposed tc deepen the entrance* to 43ft. so that vessels with 35ft. or 36ft. will be able to pass in safety.
