AN INTERESTING RETURN

(Received 26, 9.30 a.m.) I PRESS ASSOCIATION—-COPYRIGHT. | Sydney. July 26. A return has been compiled by the Chief Engineer of Railways which shows that 4(M miles of railway have been constructed on the contract system at the cost of £1309 per mile, whereas 767 miles have been built by day labour at a cost of 3321 per -mile. These figures will be used by Mr. Griffiths in support of his contention that day labour is the cheaper system.
