ST. JOHN’S CATHEDRAL, NAPIER.

Th? annua] meeting cf parishorers of the Napier Cathedral was held last evening. The- Vicar (Canc.i Mayne) presided.

The vicar’s eighth annual repo: t reviewed the activities in connection with the cathedral during the pad year and stated that, owing to tincareful supervision cf the churchwardens, assisted by ths vestry, th? financial position of the parish i ; sound, and an improvement upo i that of last year. The spiritual condition likewise, if one may judg .* from the following evidences--namely, the number of regular participants at the holy communion : the noticeable large percentage of men at the Sunday services, especially at evensong ; the increase of £52 in the general offertories ; the improved attendances throughout last lent. Good Friday and Easter Sunday ; the large body of active and willing workers : and the ready response made to appeals on behalf c the mission work of the Church at home and abroad gives me no cause for anxiety or pessimism.' The report was adopted. ‘

It was decided. ‘"That it be a recommendation to the incoming vestry to take the necessary steps to place in the cathedral a memorial tablet to the memory of the late Air. Horry Stokes Tiffen, for many years a- church warden and trustee of this parish, who was a generous donor to the building funds of the church (St. John’s) in the early days, and also to the cathedral.” The following office-bearers were elected :—Vestrymen, Messrs. W. IL Finch, R. AV. Hansard, S. E.. AlcCnrthy, P. Ashcroft, H. J. Bull, T. B. Bear, J. P. Thomson, A. G. Pallot, J. B. Feilder, and Dr. Henley : vicar’s warden, Mr. J. B. Fielder ; parishioners’ warden, Mr. J. H. Sheath *, auditors, Messrs. 11. Bull and U. F. Hctley (re-elected); svnodsmen, .Messrs. W. P. Finch, F. AV. Williams, J. H. Sheath and J. B. Fielder.
