The latest news regarding the fire at the overall factory at Bingham ten places the death roll at fifty. After nightfall searchlights were utilised to search for the bodies, the majority of which were recovered. . The tragedy occurred with terrific swiftness. The whole building was a mass of flames in a few minutes. Twenty women heeded the alarm ind escaped easily, but the others dallied, thinking the alarm merely a fire drill. The girls stood six deep around the windows screaming in agony as the smoke and flames reached them, [any descended fire escapes, only to fall into the flames bursting out from the building’s sides. The escapes were apparently inadequate. When the girls crowded them many fell off, and others threw themselves from the lower windows, more than a dozen escaping with broken limbs.
