2ouu MILES NORTH EAST OF SYDNEY. [ PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.] Sydney, June 27. The Government Observatory reports that an extremely large earthquake was recorded commencing at 12.59 in the afternoon on Thursday. The second phase began at 1.4 p.m. The principal surface waves occurred at 1.16 p.m. These were of enormous amplitude, reaching the greatest intensity very rapidly. The Government Astronomer states that the earthquake recorded was one of the most striking ever taken here. It had probably occurred to the north east of Australia -n the Pacific. PACIFIC LINE OF WEAKNESS. (Received 28, 10.10 a.m.) Sydney, June 28.
