THIRTY-THOUSAND CLUB.
A meeting of the Napier Thirtythousand Club was held last even mg, Mr. H. Latham presiding. A subcommittee consisting of Messrs. Beagley. Thomas and Hay was appointed to go into the question of week end trains being run to Napier. It was decided to hold a winter entertainment and the co operation of the Savage Club is to be invited. There was a surp’us from the Garden Fete of £‘3oo, £75 of which had already been voted"for advertising. The sum of £2OO was set aside ‘o carry out a proposal made by Mr. Louis Hay for lighting a portion of the Marine Parade. It was decided to ask the Borough Council to pay : half the cost of the work. The following subcommittees; were appointed : —Tree planting : Messrs. G. Latham. F. W. Triggs. ; C. D. Wilson. F. W. Marchant, H. Latham, and J. A. L. Hay. Electric lighting: Messrs. IL L. Paterson. H. Latham, J. Beagley. Ray. and Uns-: worth. Advertising: Messrs. .1. C.; Bryant. C. L. Thomas. R. C. ! Wright. IL Latham and G. IL Fore man. !
There is an Act in force in New Zealand, the benefit of which is not sufficiently realised by the people tit large." said the Mayor (Mr. 11. Holland). in proposing the toast of "Parliament" at the annual dinner of thp New Zealand Utility Poultry Chib, at Christchurch. By this Act. he continued, a boy. by contributing ninepence per week, could build up a pension for himself and his family, so that n<> matter what overtook him he would be provided for in hi> olit ago. These provisions, he felt, sure, were not sufficiently known, for if they were they would be more taken advantage of. and more would be bear-i of the measure.
