GERMAN ARMY INCREASE.
THE PURPOSE DISCLOSED
TO CROSS SWORDS WITH FRANCE.
(Received 12, 10.5 a.m.) Berlin, March 11
The “Cologne Gazette,” in a remarkable article, says it is not difficult for the Government to prove the necessity for the Army Bill, if they point without concealment to the quarter from whence -the next danger threatens. namely, France. Never has the revenge idea shown itself so undisgujsedly. France claims the support of Russia and Britain merely to reconquer Alsace and Lorraine. It is certain we shall have to cross swords with France.
The “Lokal Anzeiger” says the Army Bill provides for an increase of 65.000 recruits in two years, 18 regiments of the new battalion will shortly be brought to three battalion standard, six new cavalry regiments will be formed, the stock of horses increased by 30,i mm) and the frontier companies strengthened.
