FORESTRY COMMISSION.

Dunedin, March 10. The Forestry Commission held its first sittings to-day in Dunedin. The question of damage by deer to plantations was discussed, and it was decided to seek information from the : standpoint of the farmer, the forester and the sportsman. In the afternoon the members cf t,he Commission visited the grounds of the mental hospital at Waitai. The plantations of the county council on the catchment area of the Leith Valley were also visited. To-morrow the Commission will hold its final sitting in Dunedin and will examine witnesses regarding the present forest areas and afforestation.
