WAIPUKURAU.
[own OOH.HMPONDKNT. ] Mr. Curd, headmaster of the public school, is spending a few days in Napier, where he has gone to recouperate after his late illness. Mr. Murray, of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice ot * transfer to Palmerston North, and leaves on Thursday next to take up his duties. He will be missed by a large circle of friends who wish him all success. Rain set in late last evening and continues to-day. Farmers and others are feeling that the long spell of dry weather has at last broken and that the grass will have a chance of coming on before the winter sets in. . At the local yards to-day there was a record entry of sheep. A cricket match between Ormondville and Waipukurau took place on the local ground on Saturday, Waipukurau scored 85, of which Canning 16. Wilson 15, and White 14, were the principal run-getters. Vivian and Fayne were the succesful bowlers. Ormondville only succeeded in making 23 (Vivian 9). Waipukurau bowling honours were secured by F. Everitt (five for 2) and Bogle (three for 9). In their second innings Waipukurau have five wickets down for 37 runs. The game will be concluded at Ormondville on Saturday next.
