Mr. George AHhiton, of -Rangiora. died yesterday, aged 83. He was associated with Mr. Joseph Arch in'the liiiivenic-nt for improv eirient of the conditions of agrienjhii'al labourers in England. He came to New Zealand in 1885.
Mr. Henry William Sutton, died at, Hawcra to-dav, aged 74 years. For many years deceased was associated with Hawera ami surrounding district and took a prominent part i?. local government affairs, and Served several veers as mavor.
The formal withdrawal of Mr. Bruce Ismay from the directorship of the White Star line is expected. His health is said to have been broken by the criticism to which he was subjected when he escaped from the wreck cf the Titanic.

The New Zealand Shipping Company have received cable advice cf the death, on the 23rd inst., of Captain Bc-rtdiek, late of the s.s. Hurunui. Captain Fcrsdick had been in the service c-f the N.Z.S. Co. since 1876. and was in command at various periods of the old clippers. One of New Zealand's pioneer settlers. Mr. William Bernardus Retinieyer, passed away on Salim day at the Napier Hospital. Later he went to the diggings in Central Otagc 'it the time i f the iirs-t gold rush.
