Under Lord Derby s chairmanship 300 delegates of the Lancashire Unionist Association discussed the uirty differences with closed doors, 'it I finally adjourned to January 11th. The "Glasgow Herald"’ says that if an Imperial Conference expressed he wish that preference should be granted in other forms tnan by food Jaxes the Unionist Government would seek another way. Most Unionists would prefer that. The "Irish Times” says that Lord Lansdowne and Mr. Bonar Law have lecreed that the general election shall be fought on tariff reform, not on Home Rule. The leaders had ’queered'’ the electoral outlook and changed certainty to a very alarming uncertainty. INDIA’S POSITION. London, Dec. 23. Lord Crewe, in a letter replying Mr. Bonar Law, said the manufacturers of the Dominions would have the power to protect themselves against the Motherland’s manufac-i-urers, whereas Indian manufactui--rs would lack the power to secure -lie Home markets. Indian manufacturers would defend themselves, ’mt if Mr. Bonar Law begins to nego--iate he will find that India is eager for mcrnational Freetrade, but will pcrtainlv stipulate for the same nrivileges as the self-governing colonics.
