SYDNEY’S NEW MAYOR.

THE EX-MAYORS DISAPPOINTMENT. Sydney, Dec. 9. Alderman Cocks was elected Lord Mayor of Sydney, securing fifteen votes to the retiring Lord Mayor’s nine votes . Lord Mayor Clarke, who has been only eight months in office, responding to the toast of his health after Aiderman Cocks had been elected, said that his ambition had been to fill his full term of office. He believed he would have secured the coveted honour if outside influence had not been used against him. He much regretted that outside influence could be so unfair, all because he had shown some backbone. The Lord Mayor’s salaiv was fixed at £*lsoo.
