WE ADVISE INNER HARBOUR

Any i-c-idc nt* in Hawke's who have felt that the reprt’T supplied by Cullen and K* tie was a,*' .efficiently definite as ’ regaids the choice of harbours, will m..-w, nr. doubt, be satisfied v> In n <).>'- r» :u.i the cable sent by the engine: l

‘meeting of the board the chairman, i Air. A. E. Jull, sent the following j cable to Messrs Cullen and Keele : — ; “Although Harbour Board has ar- > rived at decision upon your report. they desire, for information of ratepavers. to whom your proposals must fimiHy be submitted, that you kindly give Board straight-out opinion as to ■ whether the breakwater or inner hari hour is the best proposal for Board ; to adopt. Kindly cable joint reply.” I This was a question which left no ! further loophole for misunderstand- ; ing. The board was perfectly satisfied that the report recommended I;lie Inner Harbour construction, but some people still held that the report, was indecisive. All doubt is now removed by the cable which the engineers have sent: — “We advise adoption our innei harbour proposals in preference breakwater scheme.” The board’s policy of investigation] has been fulfilled. It has done all| that: is humanly possible to satisfy | the desire of the people for informa-: tion, and the cable of Messrs Cullen and Keele should be about: the last ; word in the controversy. It can no] longer now be a question of faction I against faction. The whole proposi-j tion is removed to a more definite plane. The Harbour League no! longer fights tlie battle of the Inner; Haibour. The men who champion I its construction are the two leading marine engineers of Australasia. These men say to the people of Havk:’-. Bay: “Make your Inner Harbour in preference to the Breakwater,” and-it is for tlie ratepayers I to say- whether they will follow] Messrs Cullen and Keele or the j engineers <-f the Hastings street j pavements.
