PROHIBITION.
THE XAPI ER LEAGI’E. The Napier Prohibition League invited a number of their friends to a tea at the Trocadero. Napier, last evening. About 50 persons attended. Addresses were given by Mr. Wesley Spiagg anti the Rev. W. Dawson, piesident and secretary respectively i f the New Zealand Alliance. At the conclusion of the addresses the follcuing motion was passed - 'That, believing in the democratic piinciple of majoiity rule in public matters, this meeting deems that the settlement of the local option and f.attonal prohibition questions at the p<dl should at once come under this rule. and as a step towards securing this position this meeting unanimously expresses its approval of the action of the New Zealand AHiarce in seeking to obtain in nil electorates the signatures of voters .<> the following pledge:—l hereby give my pledge that, regardless of party. I will not at the next election '.ate for any candidate for Parliament who will not undertake, if elected, to do his utmost to remove, or at least very substantially reduce, the prerent unfair handicap on both the i,- ties of no-Heense and national prohibition."
