NAPIER DRAINAGE SCHEME.

THE UNCOMPLETED PORTION. The Public Works Committee of the Napier Borough Council met last evening for the purpose of considering a report from the Borough Engineer cn various matters con.nected with the sewage works flood prevention, etc. Present : The Mayor (Air. A statement was sumbitted by the Town Clerk showing the position of the drainage loan account to date as follows : First loan raised £35.000. second loan to be raised £11,000; total £46,001). Expenditure: Salaries £1571/15,4, steel rounds £687/11-7, cement £2500, 10 8, machinery- £lO,728,15 4. ironwork £925,13 8, pipe £9962/10,6, timber £1317/15 1. wages £12,458 19 2, carting £865/17 10, cil and fuel £529 3/8, lead £3lB 9 8, part first year’s interest on Joan £667 12,11, accident insurance premium £15916,10; a number of other sundry expenses made the total up to £43,755/11,"8. The statement therefore showed a credit balance of £2244’8’4. On the motion cf Cr. McGrath, seconded by Cr. Crowley, it was decided to recommend the council not to construct, a main sewer from Clive Square to Tennyson street, the Borough Engineer to provide the council with an estimate of the cost of carrying out the uncompleted portion of the scheme.
