A meeting of the Board of Governors Veterans’ Home was held yesterday at. Wellington. Lord Islington presiding. The annual report showthat the capital fund had increased from £»,040 to £t). 140. and receipts totalled £-237, which is not sufficient, to cover expenses. There arc 42 veterans iti the home. The members of the Hawke’s Bay' Motor Cycle Club held a run to Waipawa on Sunday. The roads wen in splendid order and a most, enjoyable outing- was spent. The club intend holding a test up the Te Onepu hill on Labour Day There will lie two events, an open class and another for private owners. The' bazaar in aid of tlie funds of the new, Methodist Church at Hastings was opened this afternoon • n the' Olympia skating ring by his Worship the Mayor (Air J. Garnett). Articles are low priced and a variety of enterlainment is provided. The bazaar and tea rooms will be open continuously every day this week from 2.30 to 10 p.m. The Y.ALC.A. officials, have decided to place their rooms at the disposal of visitors during show week. The rooms will be open on Wednesday and Thursday- from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 at night. Visitors can arrange to have their correspondence sent to tlie rooms or nicer their friend-, etc., for the transaction of business, etc.

The meeting called by the Napier City Band lust, night for the purpose of forming a citizens’ committee to fmther the interests of the band was well attended. Mr. B. J. The Works Committe of the Napier Borough Council met last night for the purpose of considering the report from the engineer (Mr. Hursthouse) regarding the provision of flood-level drains. There were present Messis. Plowman (DeputyChairman), Treston. McGrath, Smith, Williamson and Taylor. A good deal of informal discussion took place and it was eventually divided that, the borough engineer snoukl consult with. Mr. George Nelson as to the tide level, and confer with the committee and report to next meeting. The council then adjourned. The wireless station .to be known as Etako. on the top of Tinakori overlooking the city from a height of 1000 feet, was opened by His Excellency the Governor yesterday. Lord Islington said that the new station was another link in the chain binding Australia close to New Zealand. The Postmaster-General (Hon. R. H. Rhodes) stated that the station would be open continuously and had a minimum range of 300 miles by day and 600 miles by night, lint in practice it had a range' of 1500 miles. They had already spoken with Melbourne. Sydney, Hobart, ami Suva. To-day’s "Tribune.”—A public meeting at Hastings last night (see pages 2 and 3) discussed at length questions -affecting the construction of the East Coast Railway. At the meeting of delegates to the H.B. Cricket Association (page 2) last night, some important business was transacted, and fixtures for the coming season were decided on. Today’s proceedings at the Napier Magistrate's Court are reported on page 2. The conclusion of the report of the H.B. County Council meeting yesterday afternoon will • also be found on page 2. R.N.. and Mr. Francis Drake were <m board the Wiltshire, which was due at Adelaide last Tuesday fiom Liverpool. and' would i each Sydney in a few days. They would be leaving Sydney <m October 26th by the Maunganui for Lyttelton to rejoin the Terra Nova. The date of the ship’s departure from Lyttelton was at present tin certain, hut she would probably sail about the end of December.
