HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Hospital Board met yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs shrimpton (chair). Large. Macdonild. Taylor, Cranby. Garnett. _'rosse and Chambers. The Visiting Committee reported hat all was satisfactory. FINANCE. The Finance Committee made the ,'ollowing recommendations : — That the secretary be instructed :o furnish a list of all insurances. That the Napier Borough Council not- having fulfilled its promise to forward cheque for levy for first half year for maintenance be informed that the account must be paid. That various applications for charitable aid be granted. That the reply to the United Friendly Societies Council {for readjustment of fees be left in the hands of the chairman. That the matron’s report be adopted and that a record be placed an the minutes expressing thanks to Sister Simon for past services : that she matron Joe authorised to advertise for another sister. That the resident medical officer’s, engineer's, sanitary inspector’s and Jerk of works’ reports be adopted ; ind that the agreement between rhe board and Mr. Maidens be aporoved. That Dr. O’Callaghan's resignaion be accepted, and that a record ie placed on the minutes expressing thanks to the doctor for past services. That the secretary be authorised o advertise for a new junior resilent medical officer. Vouchers amounting to £1563/4/8 vere examined, and with the excepion of Dinwiddie, 'Walker and Co.’s iccount, pavment was recommended. A letter is to be sent to Sister Simon expressing appreciation of her services. A resolution of thanks for services was passed to Dr. O’Callaghan upon the occasion of his resignation ind applications will be invited F or he position of junior resident doctor. , - BUILDING COMMITTEE. The committee reported acceptance! of tenders for new ward and lurses home. The chairman was empowered to ask for and accept sureties for the due performance of I each contract. | The sale of the old No. 5 ward for removal for the sum of £2O to the combined France Orphan and Boys Home trusts was confirmed. The provision of sanitary convenlehces and of a coal bunker at the new laundry was left in the hands cf ..he chairman to act. The provision for further boiler recommodation in the new laundry was left in the hands of the Lighting Committee. The tender of Beagley and Angus for £3790 for the new ward and W. Glendinning £1450 for the nurses’ aome additions were accepted. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Taylor, that the Lighting Comnittee members be increased to five: Messrs Shrimpton, Chambers, Garnett, Cranby and Taylor. The' .■ommittee was given power to act. On the motion of Air. Garnett a .iew X-ray plant be procured at the ■ost of £l5O. MEDICAL OFFICER'S REPORT. The medical officer reported as follows Number of patients in hospi,al at last return, 70 males,* 32 females, total 102 ; admitted during .he month 50 males 27females ; discharged 54 males, 24 females, died 5 males ; remaining at date 61 males, 55 females ; total 96. Fifty-nine operations were performed during the month. Adopted. MATRON’S REPORT. The matron’s report was as follows :—
Enclosed is Sister Simon’s resignation I received a few days ago. She would like to be relieved of her duties as soon as is convenient after the 31st October. I shall be very sorry to lose Sister Simon, who is an excellent home sister, as well as an able and agreeable assistant to me. She .is giving up her work here as she is shortly to be married. Owing to continued ill health Nurse Hansen wishes to be relieved of her duties as a nurse. Probationer Nina Hadfield commenced duty on the 3rd of October Nurse Smith is on holiday leave. Our thanks are due to Air, J. Hardie for an invalid chair. Adopted. » SANITARY INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The sanitary inspector reported The following cases of infectious diseases have been reported and have received attention :—Scarlet fever 1. diphtheria 4, typhoid fever 2, tuberculosis 2 ; total 9. The distribution of these cases throughout the district has been as follows: Napier borough, diphtheria 2, tuberculosis 1 ; Hastings borough, diphtheric 2, typhoid I ; Hawke’s Bay county, scarlet fever 1, typhoid 1, tuberculosis 1. Three patients' have been admitted to the hospital suffering from infectious disease. Premises disinfected 11. Adopted. The clerk of works reported upon the progress of work and repairs. The visiting committee for the next month will be Alessrs Crosse and Large. Outdoor rations for September were 1113 against 1009 for August. The Hastings social and dance donation was received totalling £SS !! 2.— On the motion of the chairman a ’ hearty vote was passed to the Mayor of Hastings. A grateful patient and Impromptu Debating Society also donated £2lO--,. and received a vote of thanks. S ■ The Wellington Hospital Board forwarded a report upon the steps taken to combat the spread of consumption.—The board decided to endorse the Wellington board’s action. Vouchers to the amount of £1563 4 8 were passed for payment. It was resolved that upon the completion of the doctor's residence his salary remain at £5OO, and that the matron's salary be increased to £175. It was resolved to call the new ward the “Robjohms ward" and also insert a plate in the building bearing the names of other donors. The board then rose
