HERETAUNGA ANGLERS’ CLUB
ANNUAL RIiPCRT
The following report will he submitted by the committee of the Heretaunga Anglers’ Chib t<» the annual general meeting of members to-mor-iow (Friday) evening in Hastings:-
■‘Your committee has no diffidence in submitting the following repel! upon another year of the chili’s iii’e. it. is true that vve have not received that amount of support from the genera! public by subscript ions or increased membership that our club demands or is entitled to, but notwithstanding the absence of this incentive, we have, through the loyalty and esprit de corps of our members, been responsible for marked advancement and an expanded policy, not only in our ranke. but also in the parent body, the Hawke's Bay Ar-climatisatic.i Society. An appicciable activity has been dis-. played by the body referred to in the' distribution of fry and the destruction of their natural enemies, that must in the immediate i'utme be gratifying to the wielders of the rod in our provincial streams. “Owing to unferseen circumstances our private ponds m the president’s grounds, have not been so successful this last year in rearing yearlings as was anticipated, but with lite education that conics from experience, it is safe to say that in the coming •ipring we will have for distribution seme eight or nine thousand strong and healthy fish of that age. The import mice and value of this to anglers iiardly needs further comment, except perhaps to remind the genera! public that mir enterprise deserves i marked and practical support from them.
•‘The club, this spring, obtained from the Mastorton Hatcheiy 18.000 rainbow fry. which have boon distributed as follows: (0.000 in the club's private ponds. 2000 in tb.e Havelock stream. 5000 at Obiti. and 1090 in the Kaiapn si ream. This coupled with ilie liberation of many thousands by the Acclimatisation Society and private persons in the Maraetotara. Karmim ami other waters, justifies the assmnpti<-n that hi a few years, ll.nstirigs and its sur-
roundings should he the "Mecca” cf those with piscatorial proclivities. The vcailings roared by the club last, year were placed in the Tuki Tuki !\,r near the (.'live Graiig' and Wairnarania bridges, and from reports received the chib is justified in ongratulating itself on its labours. “The club commence'; the present
■ rasc.n with a eicdit balance of £22, mt to bring our work to fmition ■here will be some considerable ex.lense in feeding and caretaking of he fish, and in this coni’oetmn it is iot out of place to urge upon ;:!l .overs of fishing that our emb is enitled to and asks for sympathetic md substantial support.
“A resolution will be laid before •ou in tlie direction of changing the name and extending the operaiiom; of the clii'i to a 'Rod and Gun Club.' ’’
