NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. Wellington, Sept. 18. The weather conditions were almost ideal for the continuation of the New Zealand championship meeting. The wind had died down to a gentle breeze ,while all day the sun shone from an almost cloudless sky. Unfortunately there had been more rain over night, and the links had therefore no chance of drying. The programme yesterday consisted of the first round of the professional match, the first round of the amateur championship, and in the afternoon a bogey handicap. In the professional match Clements met J. McCormick, while D. Hood played Watt. Both these games were very keenly contested, good golf being shown. There was something of a surprise for the spectators when Clements, who had won the open championship, met defeat at the hands of the young Auckland professional, who had not done too well in the big match. Among the amateurs possibly the most interest centred on the meeting between A. Duncan (holder of the title) and H. B. Lusk (open champion in 1910). This gave rise to an excellent battle which, had it been a final, would have caused great excitement. Some of the other matches had highly exciting finishes. G. Pharazyn had to go to the nineteenth hole before he could beat Kirk, the latter unacocuntably missing a very short putt for a half. The Auckland crack, J. C. Burns, took Harman to the nineteenth hole before suffering defeat by a stroke after a great game. K. Duncan managed to beat A. Roberts, but the latter put up a great fight after being 4 down at the turn. Roberts had been driving very badly, but from this on he forsook his wooden clubs, taking his iron clubs. B. Wood played a fine game, and must improve. He is a very hard man to beat. Colbeck, however, gave him a good run for it, being only defeated by 2 up .and 1 to play. The results were as follows
