STAR OF CANADA.
A CLAIM FOR SALVAGE. Gisborne. Sept. It). Tlie Supreme Court was occupied in a case of considerable interest, the Tyser Line, Limited, and John Mann Hart, master of the s.s. Star of Canada, plaintiffs, and the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat Company, Limited, defendants. The claim is for £5824 and interest, amount of alleged overcharge for lighterage in connection with the salvaging of frozen meat from the stranded steamer Star of Canada. The total amount paid for lighter age was £8363, and the plaintiffs claim that the amount, according to Gisborne rates, should have been £2539. The defence sets up that, the charges are fair considering the nature of the work, the men receiving up to 4 - per hour, and that the charges were practically agreed to.
