WAIHAU ESTATE PURCHASED BY THE GOVERNMENT. BALLOT TAKES PLACE NEXT MARCH. We learn on the most reliable authority that the Waihau Estate, 6162 acres, the property of Mr. McRae Peacock, has been purchased by the Government. The amount of the purchase money is not yet disclosed, but the estate will be definitely taken over on March 12th next. The land is all suitable for mixed farming. This property is on the line of the proposed HastingsPuketitiri tramway line. It is the Government s intention to subdivide the estate into sections ranging from 300 to 700 acres, and the ballot will be held about the Ist of March next. There are other estates, including the Ngaroto, of 9000 acres, in the same district, which are under offer to the Government.
