HASTINGS FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL BALL.. The annual ball of the Hartings Fire Brigade, which was held in the Drill Hall last evening, was a voy successful function and reflected great credit on ail concerned. Between seventy and eightv couples graced the floor, which was in excellent . condition for dancing, and the music supplied by Tombs' orchestra left nothing to be desired, and during the supper interval “extra” dances were played for by Misses Edwards, Boyd and Dunn. The interior of the hall was tastefully decorated with flags and coloured drapery, and in conjunction with the many pretty dresses worn by the ladies and the bright dress uniforms of the firemen, added a dash of colour to the scene. The M’s.C. were Lieutenant Keith, Foreman M. O’Neill, and Firemen R. Ferguson and R. Cat he rail. The splendid supper provided by a committee of ladies was a special feature of the arrangements.
During the evening. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. made a short speech in which he spoke of the self-sacrifice <»f the firemen and the good work performed by them in the past. The Mayoress then presented medals, bars, and certificates to members of the fire brigade and fire police as follows:— Fire Brigade: Fireman F. Cantl:n, 5 years’ service medal; Fireman W. Hinde, 5 years’ service medal; Lieut. Keith, 1 bar ; Fireman ■■ J. Henry, 2 bars; Fireman T. Keith, 1 bar; Fireman Fraser Martin, 1 bar. Fire Police: Three years’ service certificates were presented to Captain C. Hawkes, Lieut. Anthony, Constables A. L. Ryan, C. Cbesternian. J. M. Baniforth, H. Apsey. J. Douglas, and W. Watson.
