AUCKLAND CAPPING CEREMONY.

EXUBERANT STUDENTS APOLOGISE. [FEB press association. I Auckland, Aug. 26. The University College Council carried the following resolution: — “That in view of the explanation and apology contained in a letter from the Students’ Association to the College Council in connection with the interruptions which took place during the recent capping ceremony, the council suggest to the piofc-ssorial board the reconsideration of the question with a view tc a possible withdrawal cf their reconunEiidaticns to the University Council (that the public presentation of degrees be abandomd for one year) ; further that the council, in suggesting this course, is prepared to support the professorial board in obtaining from the Students' Association an unqualified expression of regret for the recent disturbance, and whatever guarantees the board considers necessary to prevent the recurrence of any such unseemly interruptions on any future occasion.”; ’’That the council accepts the expression of regret on behalf cf the Students’ Association for the disturbance at the capping ceremony, ai.d recommends the association to approach the professorial beard tendering an ample apology for the disorder referred to anil offering to provide a sufficient guarantee against a re petition cf the unseemly conduct on future occasions."
