POLITICAL CORRUPTION.
CHARGE AGAINST A UNITED STATES SENATOR. (Received 21, 2.0 p.m.) Washington, Aug. 20. Allegations have been placed before the Senate accusing Senator Penrose of accepting a cheque for £.5000 from the general manager of the Standard Oil Company. Mr. Penrose is facing probable impeachment, but promises to reply to all the attacks when the Senate permits him.
