THE GREAT EARTHQUAKE.
15,0w PEOPLE HOMELESS. VILLAGES NOW SMOKING RUINS. Constantinople, Aug. 12. About 15.000 people are homeless. Ample food, medicines and tents have been sent. The majority of the Greeks’ fires originated in . the overturning of lamps before ikons. Over .1000 people are in the hospitals at Constantinople. The returns are still incomplete. Many villages are smoking ruins.
It is now stated that 60 were killed at Myriophitor, 150 at Hora and Ganos, 20 at Cdjoniakcreh, and that 60 were killed and 150 injured at Sharkney. The thermal springs at Dede Agatch have dried. Fissures opened at Luleh Burgas for 1500 yards, emitting sand, hot water and sulphurous vapours. RECORDED IN AUSTRALIA. (Received 13, 11.35 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 13. The seismographs of Sydyney and Adelaide recorded the earthquake in Turkey. There was a large movement of the instruments, extending from shortly after six o’clock in the morning, till 3.30 in the afternoon.
