HOCKEY.
MATCHES IN WELLINGTON. AVeilington. Aug. 11The senior hockey match, AV ellington v. Taranaki, was wen by Wellington by 8 to 1. In a junior game AVeilington beat Wairarapa by 3 to nil. A third class game, AVeilington v. AA'airc.rapa Junior B team, was won by Wellington by 3 to 2. SATURDAY COMPETITIONS. The senior "A” grade competition was concluded, leaving Hastings and St. Matthew’s equal in points, and these teams will play off. The results of the game are as under MEN’S SENIOR A GRADE. Civil Service (6) v. Napier (2). Civil Seri lee defeated Napier bj' 6 goals to 2. Thayer (2), Garry (2), Lundon and Head scored for Civil Service, and Mackie notched both goals for Napier. Mr. P. S. Foley was umpire. St. Matthew’s (4) v. Bible Class (1). St. Matthew’s defeated Bible Class by 4 goals to 1 at Cornwall Park. Mr. A. L. Fail was umpire. Hastings (I) v. Mercantile (0). Hastings beat Mercantile by one goal to nil, at Hastings. Messrs. Melhuish and Beil controlled the game. MEN’S SENIOR B GRADE. Koh-i-noor (3) v. St. Matthew’s (1). Koh-i-nooi' beat St. Matthew’s by three goals to one, at Hastings. Mr. A. Cassin was referee. M.Y.M.I. v. Union. Union forfeited to M.Y.M.I. MEN’S JUNIOR GRADE. United (2) v. Union (2). United and Union played a drawn match at Nelson Park, each side scoring two goals. Mr. A. Krogh was the umpire. LADIES’ TRIAL MATCH. “A” (5) v. - B” (0).
The first trial match for the selection of a ladies’ ieprt sentatn e team was played at Ccrnxvall Park on Saturday. Several of the chosen players being absent alterations were made in the teams, which took the field as follows :—
“A” team. —Forwards Misses AL Pitt, D. Corbin, K. Crowley /captain), K. Brady, and E. Thompson ; halves, Misses M. Swain, E. Horton and C. Warren ; full-backs. Misses O. Puffett and A. Rundle ; goalkeeper. Miss M. Morrison. ”B” team. — Forwards. Misses D. fucker, D. Topping, Mrs. Maddisor. (captain), .Misses b. Smith and B. Harrison: hahe~. Misses C. Harrison, C. Humphries, and M. Woods ; full-backs Misses W. Thompson and J. Burden ; goalkeeper. Miss A. Smvrk.
The ".A” team ven by five goals to nil. Their forward line played a great game and well fed by the backs. The “B” forwards also showed up well, but some of the backs were weak. Messrs. R. Smith and Hicks were referees.
The following will represent the Oriental seniors at the tournament on AVednesday next .—Davis, ' Ross. Turner, Cassin, West, Percy, McIvor (2). Humphries, Lorrigan, Tiekner, Hailagan.
