THE RECENT FLOODS.
CLIVE SETTLERS INDIGNANT
A meeting was held at Clive last night to protest at the manner in which the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board had dealt with the recent flood and the opening of the mouth of the Ngaruroro liver. About thirty settlers attended, and Mr. H. Thornton presided.
Ths chairman said that the district had been shamefully' neglected by the Rivers Board. There was still about 1500 acres under waver; and he thought the settlers should form a deputation and wait on the board to insist that the mouth of the Ngaruroro be opened. Mr. J. Heron said that with a little more rain things might easily have been as bad as in the 1897 Hood.
The chairman then moved, "That a deputation of ratepayers of the. Clive district meet the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board at a special meeting and bring forward the neglect in connection with the mouth of the Ngaruroro, and -also the way in. which the Clive ratepayers have been treat cd in connection with the £10,600 loan raised by the late Clive nrver Board.”
The motion was seconded by Mr. McPnerson and carried unairhnously. The following committee was set up to wait on the Rivers Board :— Messrs. Burns, J. Davidson, J. Rathie, H. Mossman, J. Higgins, A. Harrison, and J. Magill.
