MAHORA SOUTH SCHOOL.
£B5O GRANTED FOR SITE. 1 ' ANOTHER £2OO NECESSARY. t With reference to the representations made to the Minister for Edncaiion by Mr. H. M. Campbell, M.P., urging the necessity of acqtrir- ; ing a site in Oliphant road. Hast- * ings, for the erection of a school fo serve that part of the distrfet, and thus relieve the overcrowded state of the main school, the Hawke’s Bay Education Board has received a communication from the Education Department stating that a grant of £B5O has been made for the purchase of the site. The price asked for the property, however, is £lO5O .and this morning Mr. H. M. Campbell, M.P.. wired to the Hon. James Allen, Minister for Education as follows: — ‘ The Education Board informs me that you have onlv forwarded £B5O for the purchase of the Mahora South School site. The amount required to purchase the. site is £lO5O. Will you please do justice to that district by forwarding the balance which the board cannot supply, as the school is very urgently required. Hastings valuations are rising so rapidly that valuations of twelve months’ standing are quite out of date. The amount asked for the site is quite a reasonable one.”
