WELLINGTON (3) v. AUCK- ' LAND (1). Wellington. Juh 16. ,The representatii e hockey match, Auckland v. Wellington, was phiyed here to-day in pouring ram. Notwithstanding the r-lipperj. state m the ground-the play was of a hign standard. ‘Wellington won by three goals to one. AUCKLAND LADIES' ASSOCIATION. Auckland. July 16. The committee of the .Auckland Ladies’ Hockey’ Association has decided that unless the management committee of the association agrees, before July 22nd, to' the holding of the proposed junior tournament and to follow the recent ruling by the delegates to the New Zealand Association to the effect that small associations should not be formed in a district, where there is already one head association, the local executive would on no account undertake this year’s tournament. Advice was received last week that the New Zealand committee would not take the responsibility of granting the Auckland executive permission to enter several junior teams drawn from various country districts, but that the question, together with another affecting the- tournament, would be placed before' a meeting of delegates on August 13th, only a fortnight before the tournament, which is considered unfair to the local executive, inasmuch as thee- have no means of knowing how many teams will be in Auckland. (By ‘’Goalkeeper.”) Owing to the North v. South football match last Saturday, all hockey matches were postponed. A few r more representative hockey matches would undoubtedly revive the flagging interest now being taken in hockey. It is reported that a tournament will be held in Napier during Industries Week. On Coronation Da>’ last year it will be remembered that a very successful tournament was held ’on *Nelson Park. Two Gisborne teams entered, one Senior A team and a ladies’ team. Although not successful in securing a win in the finals these teams gave a very good exhibition of hockey. No doubt if the date is suitable Gisborne will be represented at the forthcoming tournament. The cup is now held by Civil Service who defeated Napier in the final. Last year it was demonstrated that a “free show” drew a big crowd but the collection taken up amounted to very little. The second round of the hockey fixtures in Vv ellington was continned on Saturday In fire weather. The ground was very slippery. In the senior grade Karori are leading. United and Wellington are second, while-Victoria College are third. Wairarapn successfully defended the Norden Cup against Poverty Bay on Thursday last. Owing to the rain which fell during the day the ground was very soft. The game ended five to nil in favour of Wairarapa. The Bay forwards were unable to get through the solid defence of their opponents. At the meeting of the Association on Thursday last it was decided that representative matches between Na pier and Hastings Senior B and Junior Grade players would be arranged. This announcement will be received with much pleasure by the men concerned. It was also decided +., give hockey sticks as trophies in the Wednesday and Saturday Juni?r competitions.
