YOUNG MAN DROWNED. Lionel Field, aged 21, son of the stationmaster at Waiwera "oouth left home on Sunday evening to proceed to his place of employment at Upper Clydevale, but did not reach there, His horse was found on the river, which was dragged to-day. Dunedin, July 16. About two months ago another of Mr. Field’s sons was killed at Palmerston North through a motor car* accident. j JOCKEY RETTER* IMPROVING, j Christchurch, July 16. j The condition of W. Retter, the j steeplechase rider who was injured ! four weeks ago at Riccarton, show- j ed some improvement to-day. He is J now semi-conscious. . j DROWNED BY THE FLOOD. Carterton, July 17. A fatal accident occurred on Mr. i, C. Elgar’s property when an employee named Fletcher while musG ; tering horses was swept from his j ’ horse and drowned. The body has { ( not yet been recovered.
