DENTAL ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Wellington, July 16. J The annual general meeting of the New Zealand Dental Association w»» I begun to-day at Victoria CollegeMr. J. N. Rishworth (president) occupied the chair. There were between 70 and 80 delegates present from all parts of the Dominion. In his opening address the president said it was for the dental pracItitioiiers to prove that it was now no longer necessary to lose a single tooth if due and proper care was exercised. The actual loss of a tooth was not in it seif so important, but it was the gradual decay, continuing with all its attendant evils, until the tooth was finally lost, which had such a detrimental effect upon the I constitution of the patient. In dental matters New Zealand was far behind jthe older countries. A dental inspection of school children would be ■«f little use unless we had some j practical means of helping those i people who we re unable to pay for [treatment. Roughly speaking, there J was £5OO.O<X) spent annually in New ! Zealand by people who. in some j measure, attended to their teeth. About half that amount would be I saved if people attended at regular j intervals, say. every three or six months, for an evammation. / I The conference will contmue until j Friday. On Thursday evening there will be an entertainment, at which the Prime Minister (Hon. 'A. F. Massey) and other members of the Ministry are expected to be pre- • sent.
