NAPIER SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION.

FUTURE NEEDS. Mr. E- P. Smyrk, at last night’s mepting of the School Committee of Napier Main School, drew attention to the need for action in order to secure that the future requirements in regard to area for educational purposes be safe-guarded. He said that, as the committee xvere axvare, the Education Board xvere moving in connection with securing a school site in Napier South, and it xvas likely that they xvould buy the same. It xvould be to the interests of the board to secure an area sufficiently large to provide, for future expansion. In the course of tunc Napier South xvould have a large population. Indeed, the great bulk of the populat’on el Napier xvould be m that direction ex entuallx, and the principal school xvould be located there. He submitted the folloxving resolution: —“In view of the fact that the Education Board are about to purchase a school site in Napier South, this committee respectfully urges upon the board the desirability of securing an area sufficiently | large to provide for the future ex-1 pansicn of the city and the eon.se-1 quent increase of population. ’ ] Mrs. Ingram seconded. ] Air. C. H. Edwards said the board] ought to buy txvo er throe acres ini order that sufficient area might he | available. In Auckland there were] only six and a quarter acres of playground in connection xvith the schools, and they were practically in the same position in Napier. If the board .could obtain tlie land at Napier iioulh they certainly ought to. do so. They ought to have about three acres at least. YVhile there was plenty of land available the opportunity xvas there for the board. Mr. Smyrk said the day xvill come xvhen it will bo impossible to secure land at a satisfactory i>riee. and liesides that the land in tins vicinity will not lie available.
