CHARGE AGAINST SOLICITOR. Wellington, July 15. ' In the Appeal Court, Sir Robert Stout, Sir Joshua Williams, and Judges Edwards, Cooper, and Chapman sat this morning to hear *he application of the Wellington District Law Society for an order to strike John G. D. Stevens, of Otaki. off the roil of solicitors, upon the ground of unprofessional conduct in respect to the following : — On the 24th October, 1910, while rcting ostensibly for a Native woman. but really in the interests of one E. East, he applied to the Public Trustee for a loan to the native of £lOOO upon the security of certain land belonging to her, representing that the money was required for the ourpose of improving the land. By such representation Stevens induced ‘ the Public Trustee to grant a loan, i whereas the money was intended for I the purchase of a share in an invention for indicating the position of sunken vessels, in which Stevens and others were interested- It was also alleged that Stevens induced the Native to pay £BOO out of the loan for a share in the patent. The ease is proceeding.
