POLO, SWIMMING AND HIGH JUMP. (Received 15. 8.50 a.m.) Stockholm, July 14. In the inter polo final England beat Austria by 8 goals to 0. Sweden secured first and second prize in ladies’ high plain diving, Isabel White (Britain) being third. Representatives of foreign nations told William Henry, secretary of the life-saving department, that they no longer viewed British swimmers as the world beaters, and in selecting teams, they paid special regard to Americans and Austrabans. Platt Adams won the high jump, negotiating 1.63 metres. THE MARATHON. WON BY SOUTH AFRICA. (Received 15, 11.15 a.m.) Stockholm, July 14. K. McArthur, of South Africa, won tlic Marathon race in 2h. 36min. 51 4-sscc. Gilsham (South Africa) was second in 2.37.52, and Strobino (.United States) third in 2.38.42 2-5. The race was run in a sweltering heat. The course was very rough and led over several abrupt hillocks. Sixty competitors started, including Lord (of Britain) and Kolehmainen. The winner reached the tape in a dazed and staggering condition. 4TO METRES SWIMMING. (Received 15. 2.15 p.m.) Stockholm, July 11. The final of the 400 metres swimming was won by Hodgson (Canada) in smin 21 2-ssec. Hatfield (Britain) was second in smm 25 4-ssec. Hardwick, who was suffering from slight tar trouble was third in smin 31 1-5 sec. Healv was fourth, and Lastores fifth
