Captain Saunders was formerly in the employ of the Adelaide Steamship Company as senior mate, and was' under -Captain Sim on the steamer Grantala for a long time. The death oecured on Tuesday of Mr. W. W. Allen, one of the bestknown Dunedin commercial travellers on the road. He .was senior traveller for Diithie Bros., with which firm he had been associated for 30 years. Mr. Allen, who was a universal favourite, died after a brief illness at his residence. College street, Cavcrsbam. The Rev. Cecil John Wood was consecrated as fourth Bishop of Melanesia at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Dunedin, yesterday morning by the Primate (Bishop Neville). Bishop Sprott (Wellington) and Bishop Crossley (Auckland) assisted the Primate. The consecration sermon was preached by Dean Fitchett, and there was a hill musical service. The church was crowded. The Coimnander-iu-Chief of the Australasian. Squadron will visit Auckland in bis flagship, H.M.S. Drake, from 27th to 29th July. The visit is fcr the purpose of seeing the proposed sites for naval establishments, and on account of the shortness of its duration, the Commander-in-Chief’s time will be so fully occupied that he will be unable tc enter on any other engagements. The Commandcr-in-Chief will be visiting Auckland either in December or January next, and making a stay at this port. A quiet wedding was celebrated a!
