Dunedin, July’ 10. The directors of the New Zealand Coal and Oil Company have replied to a deputation of the Otago Coal Miners’ Union (Federation of Labour) upholding their previous decision not to recognise this body’ as the other union was registered under the Arbitration Act. A meeting of the men last week threatened “more 'drastic steps” if recognition was re fused. GISBORNE REFUSES RECOGNITION. TO FEDERATION DELEGATES. Gisborne, July 10. A meeting .of the East Coast Trades and Labour Council to-night resolved not to receive the Federation of Labour delegates who had written in regard to collecting funds for the Waih'i and Reefton strikers and placing matters before the local unions, as the council had no sympathy’ with tht> methods of the federation.
