A presentation of a silver-mounted mottled rimu walking stick, suitably engraved, was made on Monday evening at Auckland to Mr. Norman Cranby. of the firm of J. Griffen and Co., contractors, who has been transferred to Napier, the firm’s head office. The presentation was made on behalf of the employers by Mr. W..Foote.

Captain William Sinker, R.N.R., of the mission steamer Southern Cross, which arrived at Auckland from the New Hebrides on Monday morning, while suffering form sunstroke in the islands had an attack of malarial fever. The vessel was brought to Auckland in charge cf Mr. Burgess, the chief officer, but on arrival in the harbour Captain Sinker was able to be on deck.
