READY-MADE OR BESPOKE
AN IMPORTANT JUDGMENT. Wellington, July 5. The reserved judgment of the Arbitration Court in the case Millar and Giorgi v. W. J. Culver, inspector of awards, was lodged with the clerk of awards to-day. “The appellants,” said the court, “are retail drapers and clothiers in Palmerston North. They offered for sale to a customer a ready-made suit of clothes. The customer said he would take the suit if the trousers were shortened a little. The appellants sent the trousers to a master tailor in Palmerston North, 1 who made the required alterations, in his own premises. The transaction was simply the sale of a ready-made suit of clothes, subject to an alteration being made therein. They therefore did not commit any breach of the award, by having the alteration made off their own premises, and the appeal is allowed with costs.
