July 4 and s—Gisborne R. C. Steeplechase. July 17 and 20 —Wellington R.C. Winter. Aug. 13, 15, and 17 —C.J.C. Grand National Meeting. GISBORNE RACING CLUB. WINTER MEETING. Gisborne, July 4. The first day’s racing of the Gisborne Racing Club’s winter steeplechase meeting passed off in ideal weather and in the presence of a record crowd. The sum of. £9638 was put through the totalizator as against £7934 for the initial clay last year. The following are the concluding results Tramway Steeplechase Handicap. —Taiaha I, Te Rahui 2. Captain Jingle and Swarthmoor also started, but both baulked at the hurdles and withdrew. Te Rahui ran round the second to hurdle and Taiaba romped home. Te Rahui then registered an easy second. Captain Jingle was favourite. Time, 4inin 17?,see. Winter Oats Handicap.—Admiral Soult 1, La Reina 2, Birkline 3. Also started: Spate and Sea Pink. The finish was the best of the clay, heads only separating the placed horses at the post. Sea Pink fell, and his jockey (F. D. Jones) sustained a broken collarbone. La Reina was favourite. Time, 2min 16 4-5 sec.
V.R.C. MEETING. Melbourne. July 4. The final acceptors for the National Hurdles are :—Arquebus, Obi, Flavel. Yudnapinna, Forest Prince, Lord Desmond. King’s Ransom, Merry Monarch, Yaudilla King, Jolly Boy. Flask Jack, Pleasant Wavs, Ruffs, Novar, Joe, Uxbridge, Lion, Fiddlespring, Rogue’s March, Yatla, Bribery, Mcrriwoola, Mountain Heather Hardrala, Black Native, Powerful, Wangarara.
