Father Le Pretre left Napier firs morning for YVairoa. The Hon. J .A. Millar left Auck land for Wellington last night by the Main Trunk line. Mr. T. H. G. Lloyd, solicitor, of Danncviike, is at present in Napier. Mr. and Mrs Lord, of Christchurch, are at present on a visit to Napier. Mr. R. T. Sadd, Commissioner oi drown Lands for Hawke’s Bay, was 10-day elected a member of the Hawke’s Bay A. and Pj Society. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, arrived in Napier last night and presides at a sitting of the Conciliation Court to-day held in connection with the timber yard and sawmill workers’ dispute.
There was a large and brilliant i gathering at Sydney yesterday, including Lord and Lady Chelmsford, at Mr. Bryce’s reception at the university. Mr. Bryce delivered an impressive address on the functions and aims of universities.

Mr. C. R. Pollen, ex-Commission jf Crown Lands at Napier, and now Jommissioncr of Canterbury, was welcomed to Christchurch yesterday vy the Canterbury Land Board. In cplying Mr. Pollen expressed bis gratitude for the welcome extended. Although a stranger among them he lad been informed that their boar J vas one of the most capable in lii? Dominion. He asked that the same issistance and help be exten let., to .lim as to Mr. Brcdrick.
